Been listening to Bon Iver on a psychotic loop thanks to Superdupersupei.  Subsequently, I did a psychotic google search and found more!

Stumbled upon Jon Hopkins, who is a pianist, composer, and taught himself the ins and outs ot studio recording.  He is my new musical idol and i’ve also been looping his new album on spotify.  Ah spotify…

Question is…will it be available in the UK? It’s a dream come true for non-TV watchers like me, in my quest to become more TV friendly.

Aussie trip coming up in July if all goes well with holiday planning and leave-taking… woo hoo!  Sydney, Melbourne and all the places in between, in a fleeting 1.5 wk trip.  because i’ll be spending 3 days getting there from London and 2 days getting back.  Gonna nick some TED stockings and aspirin.

Weekend in London was essential.  Can’t stay in isolated Canterbury for too long!  My psyche is renewed.  phew!

Hello world (and hello myself!)

The first couple of days in ITU have been a readjustment from the busy on-calls of being a surgical senior house officer, and I simply couldn’t deal with being at one place at a slower physical pace, but quicker mental pace.  I am however glad to have the neurons firing again, in a conducive atmosphere.  I reckon my dress sense will suffer since I pretty much am in scrubs 24/7.

I could have done with a couple of days off after the harsh on-calls, getting bleeped left right and centre to see and manage 5-10 patients at a time.  The two days on-call resulted in 1 urological admission, and 2 general surgical/vascular which ends up sounding pretty unrepresentatively benign.  I was exhausted, and the last 48 hours were a tough survival run for my body and mind.

The net is a wonderful place, and I’m pretty damn glad to be part of this information age.  Easy way to kick start myself in acid-base physiology and breathing circuits.

Somehow all the youtube Edu and free university courseware videos available online seem to be alot of highly polished utter crap. This is especially so for the medical waffle and grease that as a medic I was thankfully trained to cut through.  Glossy ivy-league videos on phenomena and (this one’s below the belt) poorly critiqued trials. Pffft!
Beware false propaganda and media hype about medical information, generated by institutions of supposed higher education.
Take home however, their amazing presentation skills. Almost convincing enough.

Not all bad news however, as Harvard Business School have some well presented videos on innovation, strategy and the like. Call me cynical but it may not be long before another insider tells me its actually utter crap or severely backdated.
